Although our NJ ASK and GEPA math scores are very good, we are interested in continual growth and improvement. The Quarterly Skills Quiz is a new initiative for the FAMS Math Department, and we are analyzing and reflecting each step of the way. The end goal is improved student skill levels. Information is always a good thing, because we know a good deal more about our students than we did in September. The real important question is “What do we do now?” We continue to analyze possible options for the improvement of individual students skills.
This notice is to inform our FAMS learning community that the results from the first Quarterly Skills Quiz will be used as the first quiz grade of the 2nd quarter. Each teacher will determine how the quiz fits into their grading system. The change of quarters is due to the time needed to prepare a meaningful interpretation of these results. We are currently entering each individual student’s QSQ results and item analysis into an Excel spreadsheet. This will allow us to gather valuable and meaningful data and skills assessment. The data entry process will take some time, but our goal is to have the QSQ’s for all three grades entered by November 27th.
In order to ensure a consistent format of the QSQ’s assessments, the actual quizzes cannot leave the classroom. When we have completed our data collection, each student and family will receive an individualized explanation of the skill level of his or her child. Any interested parent can schedule an appointment with me in order to view the actual QSQ.
If I was unable to answer your concerns and questions in this posting, please feel free to contact me via email. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm for this important new initiative.
Have a good day and a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday.
